What is a PDF Print Proof?
A PDF proof is the most accurate digital preview of your project. It reflects the file sent to production (without watermarks) and shows how your project will print, with a few exceptions, such as foil and trim.
Use the PDF proof to review layout, text, and image quality—especially for low-resolution photos. Always check your proof before placing an order, as changes cannot be made afterward.
How to access the PDF Proof
You can email a PDF proof directly from the editor:
- Click the three-line menu at the top center of the editor
- Select “Email Print Proof”
- Enter your email address and click “Send”
Your proof will begin generating and may take a few minutes to arrive.
Note: Large projects or high-resolution images can increase processing and load times.
Understanding the PDF Proof
Your PDF proof reflects how your project will print, but there are a few important details to note:
- You may receive multiple PDFs (for example, separate files for the cover and interior)
- Foil elements are delivered as a separate proof
- Cover materials and foil colors will not appear accurately (shown as white/black placeholders)
- Trim zones and binding areas are not shown
Despite these limitations, the PDF proof remains the most accurate representation of your final product.
Trim Zone
PDF proofs do not display trim or binding areas, so slight variations may occur during production.
- Leave at least 0.125" (1/8 inch) from all edges free of important details
- Avoid placing key elements near the center fold (gutter), especially in non-layflat books
- Layflat albums have a subtle center crease—avoid placing critical content directly in the middle
Having trouble accessing your PDF proof?
If your proof hasn’t arrived or won’t load:
- Allow extra time for large files to process
- Check spam or promotions folders
- Try sending the proof to a different email address
- Ensure your internet connection is stable when opening the file
If you still can’t access it after an hour, contact our team for help.
Can I get a PDF proof without a watermark?
PDF proofs sent before ordering will include a watermark. A non-watermarked version may be available after purchase—please contact help@artifactuprising.com for assistance.
When should I check my PDF proof?
Review your PDF proof before placing every order. It’s your final opportunity to confirm everything looks correct before printing.
Can you check my project for me?
We’re unable to review projects before printing. We recommend carefully reviewing your PDF proof before placing your order.
For select products, a paid professional review option may be available at checkout.
Can I make changes to the PDF proof of my project?
Yes—edits must be made in the editor, not the PDF.
After making updates:
- Return to the editor
- Make your changes
- Resend the PDF proof
Once your order is placed, changes can no longer be made.
